How to read price tags to get the best deal! Seen here first :)

Did you know that there is a way to read some store tags to know if it will be marked down or not?  I didn't either.  But, thanks to a news report there now is a way.  Check out this article on how to read Target, Sears & Home Depot's tags.  To me the Target one is going to come in super handy :)

Target's deals $8.11 out of pocket for 4 Transactions on 7-31-13

Hey everyone.  I'm sorry I'm a bit behind on my posting.  A few little life issues got in my way.  I wanted to share some great deals that I did at Target on 7/31/13.  As you know we had a ton of coupons expiring & I really didn't want them to go to waste so off to Target I ran after my little guy went on the school bus.  I ended up going to 2 different stores because my local one was wiped out of clearance etc.

There are 4 different transactions in this blog because the 2nd store decided to make up their own coupon policy that day.  This is why it is so very important for you to make sure you are carrying that corporate policy on you when you shop with coupons.  I broke my own rule & did not have them on me :(

My 1st trip was small as I mentioned not much left in the store.  But, I still did really well.

Breakdown:
Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo $2.49 each, bought 2 & used the $5/2 "any" Clairol item = Free
Covergirl Mascara on Clearance for $3.12 - used $1.50 manufacturer coupon & Target mobile coupon $1.00 off any Covergirl product = $.62c
(I do not know what the extra .05c  Target coupon on my receipt is from, but they took an additional .05c off on my reciept)
Total out of pocket $.58c (saved $8.63 this trip)

The 2nd trip was to 1 store but I had to do 3 separate transactions.
Transaction 1 Breakdown:
Tide to go Pen on clearance for $2.05 - used $1 off any Tide product mobile coupon (forgot to give her my .50c off one as I was a bit of a mess when she made me break down my transaction, after ringing it all in)
GE 60W Lightbulbs $4.39 - used the $2.00 off Target coupon
Right Guard body wash $3.49 - used $1.50 manu coupon & $2.00 Target coupon = Free
Clairol Herbal Essence body Wash $2.99 each - used $5/2 product coupon - $1.00 for both
Venus Razor $5.99 - used $5.00 off manu coupon & $3.00 Target coupon = giving me $2.01 overage
2 Bayer chewables $2.24 each - used 2 $2 manufacturer's coupons
Mead portfolio $1.00 each purchased 2 - used $1/2 target coupon & $1/2 manufacturer coupon = Free
Total out of pocket for this was $3.06 (saved $25.50 this trip)

Transaction #2 was an interesting one as she had to give me back a coupon because the system would not let me have a "Free" transaction:
Febreeze $2.99 each purchased 2 - used 1 .50c Target coupon (tried to use 2 but this is one she had to give me back) & $3/2 Febreeze products
Venus razor $5.99 - used $5 manu coupon & $3 Target coupon = give me $2.01 overage
Total out of pocket was $.50c (saved $11.50 this trip)

Transaction #3:
Venus razor $5.99 - used $5 manu coupon & $3 Target coupon = giving me $2.01 overage
Playtex $6.99 each, $5 gift card if you purchase 2 x 2 is $13.98 - used 2 $3 manu coupons & 2 $1 Target coupons = making these $5.98 plus the $5 GC back
Paid $3.97 out of pocket & got $5 (saved $21.00 this trip)

My total out of pocket for all 4 transactions was $8.11 & I got the $5 GC back

CVS - Absolutely FREE no out of pocket 7/22/13

Unfortunately, there's not much in the way of sales this week at CVS.  But, when I saw a blogger post about a Tone body wash coupon I printed it & checked out the deal.  I made my deal a bit sweeter though with a red machine coupon that I received last week.

Breakdown:
2 Tone Body Washes on sale for 2/$8 - use 2 $1/1 coupons, used red machine coupon for $2 off $5 body wash bringing my total down to $4
1 CVS paper towels .79c - used red machine coupon for .79 off (advertised in weekly ad)

Used my $3 in ECB's I received in email yesterday & $1 ECB from previous purchase = Totally FREE!
And I got back $2 ECB's

Rite Aid Trip 1 - 7/22/13

As promised I went back to Rite Aid this week to use my $5 in UP Rewards that I got last week.  This transaction may seem like it was expensive but for Ben & Jerry's Ice cream alone it was a super good deal.  And, I got back $9 UP Rewards for my next shopping trip.  A few items were on clearance, randomly found, not planned on purchasing this trip lol

Breakdown:
Lysol No-touch refill on clearance for $.99
6 Containers of Ben & Jerry's ice cream (not pictued as needed to get into freezer asap) on sale for 3/$7 - used 2 $2.50 off 3 coupons & get back $2.00 UPs on each 2 (limit 3)
4 Gatorade on sale for $1 each - used RAV coupon for $2/4 - get back $1 UP
1 Colgate Mouthwash on sale $4.49 - I forgot to use my coupons but there are still some $1/1 manufacturer ones out there - got back $2 UP
1 Stayfree on sale for $2.99 - used $1 manufacturer coupon - got back $2 UP
2 Tic Tacs on sale .99c each

Chips Ahoy mini cup on sale $1 (for my youngest son)
Ritz Bits on sale $1 (for me lol)
Moo Candy bar on clearance .87c
Combo's on clearance .39c

Used my $5 in UPS & paid $29.19* & received $9 in UPS

***There is an error on my receipt which I will be going back this week to have corrected.  2 of the B&J ice creams rang up regular price of $4.99 each & not the sale price.  Which means that I was overcharged by $3.00, please watch the register when they are ringing you out.

Coupon Policies - print these & keep them with you.

Below are some links to some store coupon policies.  You should always have these printed & in a sheet protector in your coupon binder.  There are several employees that could be new, not trained properly etc and/or one that will argue with you even if they are wrong.  Having black & white in your binder is always the helpful in order to make sure that the stores are upholding their corporate policy!

Rite Aid - 2 trips - everything $1.71 total

I've decided to give Rite Aid a shot with couponing.  I've been watching a lot of bloggers talk about it and figured why not.  Let me first start off by saying I do not like that they only give you 14 days to use your UP Rewards.  Another VERY important thing to remember is that you can NOT use your UP Rewards until the next day after 6am.  Both of these are very important to remember if you are going to try & roll them.  Earlier this week I bought some snacks for the house (m&m's, various candies etc) these all gained me my 1st UP Rewards to use, grand total of $7.00.

Both trips are in the same picture as I only purchased 1 item in the 2nd trip (not intentionally they are both next door to each other & neither had my Clorox 2 lol)

Trip 1 Breakdown:
1 Clear shampoo on sale for $4.99 - used $3.00 Rite Aid Values video (RAV) coupon (there is also a $1 manufacturer coupon floating about online but I have already used my max prints of it)
1 Revlon BB Cream Foundation on sale for 40% off making it $6.59 - used $2.00 manu coupon & $2.00 RAV coupon
1 Reach Toothbrush on sale for $2.99 - used $1.00 manu coupon
Used $6.00 in UP Rewards & only paid $.60 out of pocket.

Trip 2 Breakdown:
1 Reach Toothbrush on sale for $2.99 - used $1 manu coupon & $1 UP Reward = Total of $1.11 out of pocket.

Both of these trips earned me an additional $5.00 in UP Rewards to roll for next week's sale if I wish or spend on other merchandise in the store.

Target trip 7-18-13 Total $8.98

I absolutely love Huggies baby wipes!  I always try to keep a stock of them but just recently I've noticed I have full blown run out.  Well we can't have that as we use them for everything from washing my son's face & hands to washing my kitchen counters.  So, with Target's great B1G1 for $1 deal this week, off we went today.  On top of that deal they had the containers for $2 with also B1G1 for $1.  My containers are getting a bit shabby so grabbed a couple of cute new ones.

2 Containers of Huggies wipes $2 for the 1st one & $1 for the 2nd - used $1/2 manufacturer coupon
6 packages of the refillable wipes - 3 at $1.97 & 3 at $1.00 - used 3 $1/2 manufacturer coupons
Basically with the Huggies I bought 4 & got 4 FREE
1 Seventh Generation Dish liquid price drop to $2.64 - used $1 off manu coupon & Target mobile (text) coupon of $.75c off any 1 laundry detergent
I also used my Target Cartwheel & got another $.80c off
My grand total out of pocket was $8.98
My savings with coupons was $11.14 (my cashier today was super excited to let me know that my out of pocket was less than my savings amount lol)

Sparkle paper towels at Staples. Steal of a deal!

I ran out to 2 different Staples yesterday to find this deal.  The 1st one did not have any paper towels but did have the cute bins in the picture.  They were on the clearance shelf for .50c each.  There are 3 to a pkg of the skinny ones & 2 to the square ones....that is cheaper than the dollar store and since I am trying to get organized I grabbed a couple of them.

The 2nd store had 1 pkg of "visible" Sparkle paper towels. As I decided to "double" check before I left I noticed what looked like a package sticking out way up on the huge overstock shelf.  I grabbed a guy & asked him to look, not 1 but 2 packages were back there.  He got them down for me & I proceeded to the checkout after scanning to make sure they rang up as $2.00 each.

While at the register I discovered that it is a 2 per person limit.  So in turn we just processed 2 transactions.  These are $2.00 each for gigantic 8 pack of double rolls and then with the $1.00 off manufacturer's coupons makes them only $1 EACH.  That is a steal of a deal that can't be passed up!

CVS Shopping trip! 7-17-13 $5 money maker

Great deal at CVS today.  Used lots of coupons. 1 of my CVS coupons made the computer act up & had to void out my order & re-scan the whole thing again.  Then at the end my receipt jammed in the printer & all of my ECB's were missing....but I must say this is my absolute favorite CVS location of all.  The cashier & the manager thought it was kind of funny & even had some of the customers behind me in line chuckling...and they were not happy at first lol.
The manager was quite happy that I always make a shopping list with items marked on which I receive ECB's on....it made her having to manually re-print them much easier :)
Funny part is this was one of my smaller shopping trips lol
Here's the breakdown with what I got today.  You can still do this until Saturday!

2 Revlon Nail Polish's $3.99 each on sale - used 2 $1 off manufacturer coupons (got back $3 ECB's on each nail polish)
The mouthwash & toothbrushes I used a $4 off $12 or more CVS Colgate Optic White coupon which I printed off my CVS page (this is the one that crashed the register lol)
2 Colgate Optic White Mouthwash on sale $5.99 each - used 2 $2 off 1 Colgate mouthwash coupons (got back $2 ECB's on each one)
2 Colgate toothbrushes on sale for 2/$5 - used 2 $1 manufacturer coupons (got back $2 ECB's)
2 Colgate Toothpastes on sale for 2/$5 - used 1 $2 off 2 Colgate toothpaste manufacturer coupon (got back $2 ECB's)
Edge Shave Gel $3.49 each - used B1G1 free Edge coupon & $1 off manufacturer coupon (got back $2 ECB's)
Bought 1 Garnier Shampoo, 1 Garnier Conditioner & 3 Garnier Styling products on sale for 3/$9 - used 5 $1 off Garnier manufacturer coupons & 1 CVS red machine coupon $3/$15 shampoo (Buy $15 get back $5 ECB's)
Not pictured is a pack of Gum for $.69c - this was my filler

I also used a $10/$50 CVS coupon that I had left over (my CVS takes ALL expired CVS coupons). Unfortunately this is my last one :(
Used $18 in ECB's & paid only $.67c out of pocket
Got back $23 in ECB's
Making this a $5.00 money maker!

P.S. Please bare with me, I'm still learning.  I could not figure out how to get the picture on here :/

Walgreen's Shopping trip today! $.24c out of pocket :)

Today I wanted to try my hand at Walgreen's.  Over the last few weeks I had racked up some Balance Rewards, by accident, on some shopping trips.  I am Not big on their Register Rewards as most of them only give you about a week to redeem.  To me that is not long enough as I may not want to shop every single week.  Although, today I found that they took my expired $2 register reward with no complain.  I do not know if this is common or not though.

We needed some bug spray badly so I figured I would head on over & try to work their sales with my coupons & their coupon booklet.  At Walgreens you can also use 1 manufacturer coupon & 1 Walgreens coupon.  I did however do one big major No-no with my trip, I did not purchase anything that gave me points back.  But, that's mostly because most of the items from the sale are already gone by today at my store.  We only have 1 within about 30-45 minutes at the moment.

So below is a picture of my shopping trip & it only cost me $.24c out of pocket!  Woo hoo!

Breakdown:

Puffs on sale $.89 - used .20c coupon from this week's P&G coupon insert = making this $.69
Off Botanical Spritz on sale for $4.99 (with card) x 2 - used $2.00 coupon from Walgreens July book (this will take $2 off each one you buy automatically, no need to pull 2 coupons) & used $4.00 off 2 Off products manufacturer coupon from insert a couple of weeks ago = making these $.99 each
Off Familycare Aerosol on sale for $4.99 x 2 - used 2 $1.00 off coupons from Walgreens July book & 1 $4.00 off 2 Off product manufacturer coupons = making these $1.99 each

Cottonelle products used $1.50 off any 12 roll or bigger tp & 1 pkg of fresh wipes as well as listed below, making these a total of $4.99 for both:
Cottonelle Toilet paper on sale for $5.00 - used $1.00 off coupon in Walgreens July book
Cottonelle Fresh Wipes $2.49

Used my $2.00 register rewards from previous transaction bringing my total to $10.24 ($9.64 before taxes)
Used $10 in Balance Rewards from my card bringing my out of pocket to $.24c

Awesome CVS shopping trip on 6-8-13 Paid $.47c

Out of pocket cost yesterday $.47c....yup, that's it.  And, I got some pretty expensive items.  I also got back $11 in ECB for my next shopping trip.  I have mentioned that you should always scan your Red card twice with every visit to CVS.  But, you should also go online & make sure you are a member of their Beauty club & Pharmacy club.  With every $50 you spend on Beauty products you receive $5 ECB on your next shopping trip.  You do NOT have to spend the $50 all in one trip, the system keeps track of your spending & it can be over several months of purchases.

I used a variation of CVS coupons & manufacturer's coupons on top of the weekly sale to get everything pretty much free.

Here is the breakdown of what/how I did it:
Pantene is on sale for 2/$3 - I purchased 4 of them & used 1 $3/2 manufacturer coupon & 1 $2/2 manufacturer coupon
Secret Clinical was on sale for $4 each - I purchased 4 & used 4 $3/1 manufacturer's coupons, making these only $1 each, great deal
Mitchum deodorant was on sale for $1.99 - I used $1/1 manufacturer coupon
Nice & Easy Root Touch Up on sale for $5.99 - used a Red machine $2 off coupon & $2 off manufacturer coupon making this $1.99 then received $2ECB's making this Free
Oral B Cross Action Toothbrush on sale for $5.99 - used $3/1 coupon & got back $2 ECB
Colgate Total Mouthwash on sale for $4.99 - used $2.00 off coupon, $1.00 off CVS printable coupon & used a CVS red machine $2/$8 of toothpaste/mouthwash/toothbrush coupon (this was supposed to also print a $2ECB but the cashier did not ring it up correctly so the ECB's did not print)
Physician's Formula 3 pack Eyeliners $12.29 - used $4/$12 CVS coupon from their beauty magazine, $1/1 manufacturer coupon - received $7 ECB for any purchase over $7.49
Hershey's candy bar $1.19 - this was my filler as I was only at a little over $7 & would have lost the remiaining ECB's being used if didn't get filler.
I also used 2 other coupons on this transaction to make my purchase price so low.  I used a $10/$50 & my Beauty club email of $7 off coupon
Total before coupons: $60.44
After coupons: $8.44
Used $8 in ECB's from previous transactions
Paid $.47c out of pocket :)
Plus I got back $11 in ECB's for my next trip - this was definitely a money maker for me!

Are you scanning your card at the CVS red machine?

If you are couponing or shopping at CVS please remember to scan your card at their red machine.  Actually, remember to scan it twice, right in a row.  Yup, that's right.  1 of my local CVS's even has a sign along the lines of "it's doubly nice to scan your card twice."  I cannot stress enough about scanning your card every time you walk through that door, even if you are only grabbing a prescription or something.
I have been getting so many great coupons from this machine.  And, of course the best part is you can use them on top of manufacturer's coupons.
An example: Say this week's Colgate deal it says buy $10 & receive $5 ECB.  I have manufacturer's coupons & a coupon I printed off of CVS site (CVS coupon) and a red machine coupon for $2 off $8 worth of toothpaste/mouthwash purchase (no brand named).  This means that I can use ALL 3 of these coupons together.  Yes, that's right all 3!
Please remember to scan your card at the Red machine :)

January 23rd Target shopping trip!

Here is one of my 1st coupon shopping trips on January 23rd 2013.

With Target you can stack coupons.  You may use 1 manufacturer coupon & 1 Target coupon (found on their website) on each item purchased.  Now something very important to remember about Target is that you can only use 1 Target coupon for each item a visit.  You cannot use more than one during a visit, even if you are purchasing 2 of the item.  Also, always make sure you check the end-caps at your local Target.  This is where most of them put their clearance items.  For a smaller store, you may have to search individually throughout the aisles for the markdowns.

I paid a total of $13.00 on $37.86 worth of product.  Below is the breakdown of how I did it.

Cars 2 toy was on clearance for $3.58, bottle brush was in the dollar section $1.00

Chuggington movie $5 used $3 coupon, paid $2

Finish Dishwashing Tablets on clearance end-cap for $2.66, used coupon for $2.15, paid $.51c

Clorox2 on sale for $8, used $2 coupon that was on the bottle, $1.50 coupon & received $1.50 back from       Iobotta*, total price $3.00

Gillette Fusion Razor $6.99 & Disposable Mach 3 Razor $7.49, used $10 off Fusion when you buy a disposable razor & used $3 coupon on any Gillette disposable razor, total paid $1.48 for both.

Target printing paper $3.14, used .50c off coupon found on their website, paid $2.64

*I will be going over Iobotta on a future post.  This is a very easy way to earn some extra cash back on top of the coupons you use.

A frugal moms voyage in to the world of couponing.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself.  I'm a single mom of 2 boys who has recently taken the plunge into couponing.  I am saving tons of money & want to be able to share my strategies & tips with you, so that you can save too.

Just today alone I have saved over $30 on products in 2 shopping trips.  I will be keeping it very real with my blogs & will only post actually free or money savers.  I will also list where you can make rewards with certain stores, but to me that is not free if there is an out of pocket expense.  Therefore, I will post about some of them but not dedicate my blog to them.

I will be going a bit backwards on my 1st few blogs on some of my past trips.  These have all been over the last month or so.  I will be posting pictures & what I did to get the deals that I did on that trip.  I will also be posting freebies that I have received & will be adding them when I find them for you to grab as well.

Couponing can be very time consuming but also so worth it to keep the money in your pocket.  The money you save could easily be used on other items for your house, on your kids, vacations, bills etc.  Why not keep that money in your pocket instead of in the retailer's pockets?

Please also remember that you can help give back to your community doing this as well.  If there is a product that you can get for free or almost free, and it's something that your household doesn't use, you can donate it to a local shelter, woman's club or just give it to someone that you know could use it.

I hope you enjoy the page as much as I will in keeping you informed on how to save some money!
Thanks for stopping by!
